iPhone ringtones

My phone has gone silent. I never get a ringtone when I receive messages or whatsapp messages. Sometimes the tones work, but most times they don't. All the notifications are ON for sound. Any ideas?

Are you sure that the mute switch on the side of the iPhone above the volume controls has not been turned on? If so, turn it off.
