iPhone unlocking for use abroad

Hi there,

I'm looking to sell my iPhone 4 to a friend who lives in Ecuador. I live in the UK and my phone is with O2, if I get it unlocked will the phone work normally in Ecuador or is there anything special I need to do?

Your friend might have to do something else, not entirely special, to the iPhone maybe depending on the carrier. He'll have to set up the APN settings based on the carrier's settings in order to get it to work. That is out of your hands since you'll need the active SIM to do it. He should be able to do it. Most carriers that offer BYOP will give you the APN settings or help you set it up. As long as you unlock it, he can take care of the rest in Ecuador.
