Is being featured the only way to have a succesful app?

Hi guys I was just wondering if having your app featured is the only way for it to be successful?

Ive heard nothing bad bad luck with advertising, is this true?

Has anybody had success regardless of been featured?

Never had a featured app. Have many that are very successful. You must learn how to reach your customers with advertising.

i don't write apps, but i do run a small business.

biggest rule to follow is the prospective client will only give a maximum browsing time of 5 to 15 seconds maximum attention to a printed add, so you have to capture their attention quickly.

clear headers loudly indicating where your product area is, and a simple to read list of advantages is better than writing an essay in an add, as it is off putting and even seen as likely overly complicated.

so 5 big punches to get attention, with a link to learn more is far more effective than loads of small faced type

All of our apps have specific market segments where we place targeted ads. We always see a dramatic spike in sales whenever a new print ad comes out.

I'm not sure how I would go about getting visibility for something like a shoot em up game.
