Though I'm not new to iOS, I know very little about Mac's. I've found someone selling a 13" 2011 Macbook Air for $750 - it's gently used and in perfect condition. Assuming the obvious qualifications (it's legit, they're trustworthy, it works, etc.), is that a good deal?

She's not sure on the size, doesn't have it with her. But obviously I'll find out.

Oh you retracted your question... :)

yes sorry,i just wanted to check on it a bit further, find out what size storage it has,Air 2011 came with 128 or 256 gb,also memory size,4gb or 8gb,important as you can't add it later.

awesome, thanks - will report back once I find out

ok,the memory size makes a difference to the price when new so it affects the used price too.....also like i said you can't add more RAM later like you can with a MacBook Pro.

Sounds like she's not real tech savvy. She said she went by the Apple store to run diagnostics to make sure all was still good and they said it was running perfectly. She also gave me the serial # - is it possible to look up the details with that?

i'm not sure if you can get the details from the serial number but it's very easy for her to find it....tell her to click on the black apple top left of the screen and click About this Mac,there she will see the details you need to know.

you could give Apple a ring too and give them the serial number, they might tell you the relevant info you need to know.

Ok thanks - I'll see what she says.

The good news is it appears it still has Applecare for another year - though maybe that's normal for the macbooks?

I guess the only other question I have if it comes back with good specs is will this thing be obsolete in the Apple world and lose some functionality that will make it beneficial with my Mini and 5 and will I regret getting it vs. saving up for awhile and getting something new...

people are still using older Macs than that,i have a mid 2011 MacBook Pro that i hope to be using for years to come,i update to Apples latest OS when it's released and that keeps it up to date,i'm not sure if Applecare is transferred to the new owner, the first owner will have purchased this when she bought it,you can always ask Apple about that, the Air is a very good machine, just bear in mind that you can't add extra RAM so try to decide how much is adequate for your needs,if you are worried about condition and you are able to meet up with the owner you could always get it checked out before you buy it,maybe an Apple store would do this for you, again it's worth asking them.

Haven't heard back from her yet, but found this based on the serial # - looks like it's a bottom tier one? And I'm trying to see the significance of the "edu" only... which I'm guessing is related to some sort of student discount.

no not much RAM,will that be enough for you?my Pro had 4GB when i bought it and i upped it to 8GB,i found it was struggling a little, the longer you have them the more you rubbish you put in them.

It looks and sounds like it's in perfect shape and just gently used - and as far as I know, the applecare is tied to the serial # for the macbooks as well. But since it appears to be this one, I'm hesitant with no additional ram or harddrive options as this will essentially be my laptop replacement.

though I guess those could still just be baseline numbers for the model... still waiting to hear back from her on what the computer itself says! :)

yes that would put me off too,you need your computer to meet all your future needs,i too like a built in hard drive but many are happy with an external one.
