I have researched quite a bit on how to jailbrake an IPHONE 3G (3.1.2) (5.11.7) and have not been able to reach a clear answer on how to go about it.

From all the various options (greenpoison, blackrain, redsn0w, jailbrakeme.com. etc) to the risks involving the baseband, I basically ended up totally confused.

Please help me clarifying which is the most current software that enables me to jailbrake my phone (not currently in service with ATT).

My goal is to unlock it in order to use it abroad.

Do I need to update to 3.1.3?

What exactly are the risks in relation to the baseband?

Downgrade required?

THANK YOU!

you would use redsn0w then ultrasn0w to unlock it

Please let me know if these instructions are OK to follow:

No need to worry about the bootloader if it's not 5.8?

Thank you very much for your help!
