Jailbreak help

To "brick" an iDevice means to render it unuseable and unrestorable. However, this is an actual rarity in the Jailbreaking world from the actual Jailbreak. More often than not it's caused due to user error in the Jailbreak process.

I suppose there's any number of events that could take place. However, from my experience, attempting to restore w/ a stock IPSW via iTunes when currently running a custom iPSW will more often than not "brick" an iPhone. Also... attempting to install the iPad Baseband on an iPhone 3GS manufactured after the 35th week of 2011 will "brick" it.

Ok thank you I have a iPhone 4 what can I do to make sure I don't brick my phone I'm on iOS 5.1

There's absolutely no way at all to brick an iPhone. The worst thing you could do would be to install the iPad baseband on a newer 3Gs, even then the device wouldn't be "bricked," you just wouldn't be able to use it as a phone. Bricked means to render a device completely useless(to the point where it won't even turn on). This is why it is called "bricking" because the device becomes nothing more than a paper weight.

Apple built the DFU mode into their iDevices which is a hardware recovery mode which means no matter how bad you mess up the firmware, you will always be able to restore it to factory settings. This is not true for other devices, such as the Nintendo Wii, which can be bricked if you mess up the firmware.

Ok... I apologize. It was my understanding that the iPad BB on the newer 3GS' would make it completely inoperable. My bad.....

The only "virus" I've ever heard of on the iPhone was a worm that changed your wallpaper to Rick Astley. That was back in 2009 and I haven't heard of anything since. As long as you change your SSH password(if you use SSH) you won't have any problems.

Compliments Wiki:Secure Shell (SSH) is a network protocol for secure data communication, remote shell services or command execution and other secure network services between two networked computers that it connects via a secure channel over an insecure network: a server and a client (running SSH server and SSH client programs, respectively).[1] The protocol specification distinguishes two major versions that are referred to as SSH-1 and SSH-2.
