Hey all,

I have a spare 3GS that I want to give to a friend. It was hacked (green poison). When I tried to reset it to factory it ended up just hanging at boot up at the point where the apple logo turns to the skull/apple logo. How can I reinstall the OS please?

Connect your phone to iTunes and in the summary tab, click restore, if your phone is not on the latest iOS, iTunes will then want you to download the latest iOS and restore your phone to factory.

Problem is that the phone is hanging in the boot process and isn't appearing in iTunes as it isn't getting that far.

Cracked the problem!

1 Turned the phone off (button at top/home button)
2 Got a USB connector cable (the white one)
3 Held down home button and connected the cable (with the other end free)
4 Released the home button and booted the device using top button
5 Connect to iTunes symbol appeared
6 Connected other end of cable to iTunes on my computer..continued boot process
7 ITunes told me it had detected a phone in recovery mode
8 Restored phone ... In my case restored to factory

Thanks for the input. I am glad I found this site and will be learning a lot and
hopefully contributing as I learn more.
