Lost Contacts & Calender after 4.2 Update

Hi,
I recently updated mine and my girlfriends iphone 4's to OS 4.2.
I did this so that we could use the 'find my iphone' app, to do this we had to sign into mobile me using apple id.
Did it all on mine and works fine. Did my girlfriends and she has lost all her contacts and calender events. I've read from other users that this is a bug and read from other people still that there is a prompt to merge all your contacts?
I updated both devices in exactly the same way and didn't see any prompt regarding contacts or calenders and mine worked without hitch, which makes me think it is the former.

Has anyone else had this problem and does anyone kow if I can restore all lost contacts and calenders? There is the 'restore to original settings' within itunes but I haven't tried it yet just incase this will damage things further.
Any help much appreciated.

You probably need to plug in her phone and restore it again to her backup. If you just restored it by loading 4.2 and didn't back it up then her contacts didn't get put back on the phone.
