Apple has announced that they are planning to bring major software platform upgrades, therefore the iPhone 5 could be the first product to benefit from these improvements.
Steve Jobs will present Mac OS 10.7 Lion and the iOS 5 at the WWDC next week. An upgraded iOS combined with the iCloud technology could be revolutionary, analysts suggest. It seems that Apple has chosen to put its money on software upgrades now, and bring only minor hardware improvements.
On the other hand, other analysts think that the iPhone 5 will only bring "minor upgrades because the company has kept the big refresh for the six-generation iPhone which could feature high-speed 4G long-term evolution data support. iCloud is another key element in Apples new platform, enabling users to stream data and media services from Apples servers. Apple has already taken care of the licensing issue and looks ready to serve the more than 200 million iOS products out there.
"Apple's licensing relationships and 'controlled' platform may appeal to studios/publishers seeking to minimize piracy, while protecting their economics in a hosted model", stated Mike Abramsky from RBC adding that iCloud APIs may extend to developers in time. Apple has already prepared its massive half a million square feet computing center from North Carolina for the iCloud.
