Man Arrested for Charging iPhone on a Train

Usually when we hear stories about iPhone crime, the stories are usually related to theft or miraculous ways folks retrieved stolen iPhones. However on Monday, Yahoo News reported a story of an iPhone-related arrest, that just seemed utterly ridiculous.

45-year-old Robin Lee was riding a train in the U.K. while charging his iPhone. At some point during the ride, Lee was approached by a police community support officer and warned that he was "illegally extracting electricity". Lee then arrived at his destination and was arrested by officers waiting at the station.

According to a statement, a spokesperson for the British Transport Police said that the arrest was due to, "a man becoming aggressive when challenged by a PCSO about his use of a plug socket on board an Overground train."

Apparently the sockets on that specific train were reserved for the convoy's cleaning staff. The crime was listed as "suspicion of abstracting electricity" in the end. Robin Lee was set free and let go with a warning in the end.

A tad bit excessive, no?

It does seem a tad excessive, considering he probably used a penny's worth of electricity.

Edit: I did some checking and discovered that if you charged your iPhone from 0-100% every day for a year you'd use about 24 cents worth of electricity. This means that the man who was arrested used about 0.06 cents worth of electricity.
