im not keen on messages in iPhone 4s,its very basic,is there another app or download that i can use for texting?
yes thats the one i don't like, are there any alternatives,on android phones you can use others found in the market,I'm wondering if there are others you can use in 4s.You should have a app called messages. Green icon with white
no,i had one on my galaxy s called Handcent and you could change everything, set it to keep sounding the alert till you read the text, change the colour scheme, get a delivery report which was very handy, lots of things, just wondered if there was any alternatives you can use in 4s,don't get me wrong I'm happy with my 4s,just exploring the possibilities.very basic? what else do you need in a messaging app? they are all the same no matter what phone I have used.

i won't jailbreak so i will have to get used to 4s messaging,i have been very happy with my ipad2 and my mbp,its only since buying my 4s that the restrictions apple impose have begun to bite, such as bluetooth not connecting to other devices, not being able to download instant text alerts, however i dare say i will get used to it.Yet again we've dipped into the differences between Android & iOS devices. ok thanks, after having an android phone it is very restrictive,i got app hero for wallpapers from the 3dwallpaper people so i can get nice wallpapers and someone said try the free app text tones so gradually there may be ways around things.........edit-one of the things an android phone can't beat iPhone for is the music player, the one i had in galaxy s wasn't so hot,i love the one in iPhone.a lot of people refuse to jailbreak and I am sure you have your reasons but ios is a very closed os and a lot of things you will only ever be able to do with jailbreak, sure apple does enable a lot of it but some things apple will never enable, my only advise to you about the ringing until you answer the text would be to put a 30 second ringtone as a text alert so it will ring for much longer I dont know if it will take you that long or longer to see the texts but since you do not want to jailbreak to get the themes and other features you want then that is one solution that could possibly work for you?
As for the theme I have a sms theme but thats because I jailbreak. there is no way around that one, not that you could jailbreak even if you wanted to because there is no official release of an iphone 4S jailbreak any way

exactly lol, before i bought 4s(my first ever iPhone)i knew apple were a bit strict but didn't realise how much,i did my research but you can't cover everything, however i probably will stay with iPhones in the future, maybe as time goes on apple will slowly relax things.no worries, yeah app store has some good things but you wont be able to really customise it like you can with winterboard that lets you have full control but it is a step in the right direction with some of the app store apps.
You can also now use ringtones as sms tones so thats also good, and in 2007 the iphone had so many more restrictions like you could not even have a "wallpaper" with out jailbreak or mms and so many features it took apple ages to add but some of it they do add it its just we have to wait ages and apple does a good job of it 99% of the time.
I got used to nokia and for me having the iphone from 2007 there where so many things I could not do that I really hated the iphone for and I moved back to nokia after the release of the 3GS and all the reasons why I had moved back to nokia suddenly became bad reasons and I moved back to iphone after the release of the 4.
Some features like bluetooth send/receive apple will never enable though and all of their macs can send files over bluetooth but where do you even send them to when all of the idevices bluetooth is crippled? lol
