Hold on to your iPhone! Modern Combat 5: Blackout has just been updated as a free-to-play game. The game originally ran for $3.99, but Gameloft seems to have realized that free-to-play games are what people want in the mobile market nowadays.
Going from paid to free wasn't the only thing in the update. Gameloft must somehow repay customers who originally paid the full premium price.
The company has added an energy meter for free players, where the meter depletes after each mission and the player must wait for a recharge. Paid played will receive "Veteran" status, 200 credits and unlimited plays, eliminating the energy meter.
Finally, the new update also brings 3rd party MFi controller support, making the game even better with joysticks. There is also a new soldier class, a new Zone Control mode and all weapons now have a sixth tier class.
Modern Combat 5: Blackout can now be found in the App Store under its new "free" umbrella.
