A report in the Wall Street Journal today appears to be backing up yesterdays Bloomberg story that Apple is working on developing smaller and cheaper iPhones. The WSJ story has a little more information, saying that the new phones, codenamed N97, will be sold alongside the regular line of iPhones, and will be roughly half the size of the iPhone 4, and sold for roughly half the price, too! One new nugget of information proffered by The WSJ is that Apple is also planning a major revamp of MobileMe, according to The WSJs sources. MobileMe is currently a rather expensive service, with its annual subscription fee starting at $99 and reaching as much as $149, but the WSJs sources tell them that Apple is looking into offering MobileMe for free, so that it can be then used as some sort of cloud-based locker for personal files such as photos and videos, thereby cutting down on the amount of physical memory that devices require. The sources also say that this could make MobileMe a pivotal part of the online music service that Apple is also currently developing.
