Music as ringtone help?

i have a IPhone XR,running IOS12. I can play the song i want to use as a ring tone with Apple Music but I cant figure out how to use it as my phone ringtone. Any ideas would be appreciated.

You can use Garage Band to convert the song to a ringtone.

How to create a ringtone or text tone in GarageBand

The song you pick needs to be downloaded on your device and it cannot be a protected song in order to convert it.

What ^ said, but most songs are protected. Most of the time you have to buy the ringtone separately, which is usually a reproduction of the song, not the actual song itself. It's one of my gripes with Apple. I don't have many gripes with iDevices, but this is one of them, not being able to have an actual song as a ringtone, at least most songs.
