new iphone 4s user-- icloud verification problem

I have completed the setup on my new iphone 4s. It keeps asking me to verify my apple id email address. I have loffed into the itunes store on my phone and also the app store and had no problem with my email address I have used for years with itunes and had no problem. It tells me to go to appleid and verify my address, which I have, but it keeps saying account not verified. Any ideas?

Have you signed in yet on your computer? Start Menu > Control Panel > “Network and Internet,” then click iCloud.

If you do not have that, then you need to install that as well. Info here- http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mmdd8d1d47
You might have received an email asking for you to verify ID as well.
