New Member, Need upgrade advise!!!

Hi all, I am a newbee to your forum and hoping to learn a great deal here!

I could use some advise though, here is my situation:

I have a 3gs, jailbroken and running 3.1.3 (synced with Itunes 9.2.0)with many apps and music, my new 4s is on it way.

Here's what I want to do, save as much as I can to a backup, clean out the 3gs then give it to my wife.
Once a jailbreak is available for the 4s complete the jailbreak then upload the old 3gs backup to recover my apps and music.

Questions, since I am running such an old version of os will my idea even work? Will my old version of Itunes work with the new 4s?

I welcome any and all suggestions as to the best way to accomplish this task.

You're going to have to update to the latest version of iTunes because your new 4s will come preloaded with IOS 5. You can backup the device and restore from it. it won't backup your jailbreak Apps and tweaks but it will backup everything else on the phone apps and contacts, SMS, settings and so on. You're going to wait until a untethered jailbreak comes out or if you want go tethered with Redsnow.
