New member Sprint help

My current plan expires next month with verizon and ill be purchasing a new phone, the iphone 4s to be specific. The only problem is where I live now I only have roaming, but ill be moving next summer where I get better service. Will there be extra charges with roaming, and what about service, how bad will it be? Thanks for the help!
