Now we've seen rumors of smart rings before, some even saying that Apple was designing one as an Apple TV controller accessory. It sounds utterly ridiculous, but so did a majority of things before becoming mainstream.
A new ring from Omate and French fashion brand Emanuel Ungaro certainly won't change channels on your TV, but it has one single use. The collaboration smart ring vibrates when one specific contact is calling.
The ring is probably not for everyone, unless you and your significant other find it "cute" to be notified when one another is calling, but might also be great for when a family member is ill. Lets say you're taking care of a sick family member, go out to the store, and ask the person to only call if there was an emergency. At least that's the only real use I can think of.
Omate's smart ring supports pairing via Bluetooth LE and will be launching in early 2016. The wearable's battery lasts up to five days on a single charge, starting at $500 and going up to $2000, because it is plated in 18K gold or silver. Customers will be able to customize rings with onyx, blue topaz, opalite, or ruby as the gemstone.
