My name is Bob.
I live in Astoria, Oregon.
I am a home brewer. Making some good beer!
I've had a iPhone 3g for about 2 years.
I just basically use it as a phone.
Also listen to music and books.
Not much into Apps.

No problem. Just give an address for free beer!!!

If you are ever in Astoria, you got a beer!
Thanks for the welcome.

I hope someone can set my mind at ease about what I am about to do.
Erase/sync/restore!

Erase/sync/restore!

Thanks for the beer in advance. Why will u want to erase sync restore? Whatever reason it is, you should bkup-restore iOS- restore bkup-sync instead of erase-sync-restore.

Good morning to all ...

If you have a moment, please look at my post in the 3G section of the forum
http://www.iphoneforums.net/forum/iphone-3g-54/advice-erase-sync-backup-restore-11613/

I know this post is a short story, but I find too many people give too little facts when posting!
I took it to the other extreme!
I just wanted to make sure I had in the post what has happened.

If you read the post, you will see the dialog I have the iPhone and the reason for my concerns.

If someone can tell me that I will be fine, then I'll forge ahead!
Thanks so much for looking in to this and providing some advice.

If you have any comments of my issue, please post in the 3G forum as I somehow got my greeting in the 4G section.

BTW, I'm making a 10 gallon batch of IPA this weekend.
Stop by for a beer and hang out a bit!
Bob

Just curious if anyone has any thoughts on this.

If you care to read my other post noted above for details ...
I had rebuilt my laptop.
I created a iPhone back up on new laptop.
There is nothing in my iTunes library in new laptop.
When I try to hook the phone up, it says it need to erase and sync with new iTunes.
OK, I can do that.
Can I then restore the backup that I just made?
Will iTunes allow me to do that?
I don't care about the music, books, etc.
I am just worried about my contacts.
Please help me!!!
Yes, I am pleading!

Bob ...

You will lose everything which can be share and apple doesn't allow them be sharing, in a simple way to say, you will lose everything with copyrights ( musics, videos, book, apps). Your sms, your contacts, your calls log will be sync from your phone to your new itunes, and ofcourse they will remain in the phone after syncing them as those are your and without copyrigths. If you even pay a little of attention to itunes, you will notice that you are not really able to remove your contacts, your sms, your calls log from your phone via itunes. So when itunes says that it will earase everything it will earase just thing with copyrights so that if you own or purchase those stuff with copyrights, you will have to allow your new itunes to recognize them by adding them manually "songs" or by downloading again for free those apps and books etc... That you have previousely purchase from itunes. Nothing more. Only a restore or an upgrade will earase your contacts and your sms and your call logs, unless you earase them manually right from the phone.
