According to a report on AppleInsider today, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has stated on his radio show that the increase in overall crime in New York has been affected by the massive demand for Apple products. Figures show that New York saw 3,484 more major crimes in 2012 than in the previous year, with theft of Apple products up by 3,890 from 2011. The New York Times, which initially reported on the story, said that Bloomberg commented that robbers in New York seem to prefer Apple products, although he also noted that there were no figures reported for Apples competitors, such as Samsung. Bloomberg went on to advise that New Yorkers would be wise to keep their iPhones and iPads in an interior pocket, to keep it out of the way of thieves and pickpockets. Mayor Bloombergs press secretary, Marc La Vorgna, was even more emphatic on the role played by Apple devices on New Yorks rising crime figures, saying, If you just took away the jump in Apple, wed be down for the year.
