I read in a thread here that Chunky mentioned jailbreak users having restore issues. That's exactly what I'm seeing. Completely new to this forum (but not forums in general), and maybe I'm not searching with the right terminology (please redirect me if I'm wrong). My phone last night went to the spinning wheel icon and refuses to respond to anything since. I have a redsn0w jailbreak (with no issues prior to last night) on iOS 5.0.1, iPhone 4, and plugging into the computer allowed me to retrieve my photos as if the phone was a camera. I have iTunes 10.6. I have downloaded a version of iOS5.0.1 to use as a retroactive reload (and hopefully undo the jailbreak), but iTunes keeps telling me there are firmware incompatibilities and that it can't do anything. I get error 3194, which I've found through google to be less than a rare error. All of the methods I've read about to try and regain communication with the phone have relied on putting it into DFU mode, but I can't get that far. I can soft boot the phone, or power it down and restart it, and once I get past the Apple logo, it gets the spinning wheel and stays there. I've tried reseating my SIM card with no luck, tried holding home/power buttons for up to 5 minutes, tried restoring the phone using 5.0.1, 5.1, with or without backing it up, and I'm always given the firmware error that it won't work. All the while, the phone just sits with a spinning wheel and a charging beep every five seconds.

Again, please forgive me if I'm rehashing the same thing a million times over (I am Admin on an Audi forum and I see the same frustration there), I'm just hoping I'm not searching the right terminology. If anyone can redirect me to a proper FAQ or recovery post, provide the right search terminology, or some other form of phone recovery, I'd be very grateful.

Thank you,
Jeremy

Looks like it worked out. The phone was on OS5.0.1 before. I did the move up to 5.1 and it's currently restoring from the backup point I had right before the jailbreak. Thanks very much for the link. Looks like the missing piece for me was TinyUmbrella to disable Cydia. Everything else I tried didn't work, so I'm assuming that was the key.

Thanks, already a fan of this board:)

Yay! Glad to hear that things got sorted for you. And, thanks for coming back and telling us your problem got resolved. Always nice to hear back - especially the success stories. :)
