Whilst holding a cup of tea my right hand and texting away with my left, the handle snapped off the cup and I split a small amount of liquid over the phone. I quickly wiped it dry and a few minutes later I got a message saying "Charging not supported with this accessory" ( even though nothing was plugged in). This message appeared periodically throughout the day and finally stopped yesterday.
Now though, I've lost sound through the speaker. When I press the volume button, I don't see the bars. It works through the headphones though inc. the volume bars.
Is the phone damaged or can it be fixed? I've done a hard reset by the way. It's only got to last a few more months until the new iPhone 4 / 5 comes out.

Sounds like the phone is water damaged at the bottom. I had a similar experience with my 3GS a few weeks back. I was randomly getting the 'this accessory is not optomised for this iPhone' etc. message even though there was nothing plugged in. Also had problems with the home button and speaker.

Took it to apple to find it was water damaged. The phone was only a week old as I had just got a replacement due to a battey issue. Lucky they still gave me a new one under warranty...
