Notification and email problems

Hi everyone I've recently upgrades to an iPhone 4. I seem to be having a problem with notification it's set up with push every 15mins but I still have to manual have to search for emails, facebook notifications, app updates ect the only thing with comes through on it's own is text messages what am I doing wrong it's driving me made. Help lol

You may need to check settings>notifications & make sure badges and sounds are turned on.

Done that and still no joy! 
