[FONT="]9to5 Mac reports that it has discovered evidence of a new Assistant speech-to-text feature in the latest iOS 5 beta, based on Nuance Dictation software, and the result of Apples recent partnership with Nuance, which is also responsible for Nuance voices in OS X Lion. 9to5 Mac says that based on findings in the iOS 5 SDK, Assistants dictation feature will be initiated by a button on iOS 5s keyboard. After you speak into the microphone, youll see the words that you have just spoken appearing onscreen as text, which is basically very similar to how speech-to-text works in Android. The above video of Nuances Dragon Dictation app should give you an idea of how a similar feature will work in iOS 5. [/FONT]
[FONT="]9to5 Mac cautions though that although this feature is being tested by Apple in iOS 5 Beta 4, their source tells them that the finished product might not be ready by the release of the next iPhone, so we might have to wait a little while longer for it. This is something that Android has already had for some time, of course, so its no surprise that Apple is working on integrating it into iOS as soon as possible. [/FONT]
