Numbers at top left corner?

When ever i open up messages or something like that numbers pop up at the top left corner, like -71 and any random number. -71 is just an example. How do i fix this? I have verizon.

That is your dBm signal for your cellular connection.

I believe this is the instructions to turn it off an on.

Dial *3001#12345#*
Tap signal bar
Hold power button till slider
Hold home button till springboard

I dialed that number and tapped signal bar but the last 2 steps dont do anything. Numbers still appear
