So rumor has it that the very popular iPhone 3GS is not yesterdays news like most of us would have thought. Why do we say that? Well because according to some industry sources, the iPhone 3GS is set to reach manufacturing numbers of over two million units in the final quarter of 2011. Here’s the reason why that is. In recent times, Apple has been pushing the sale of the 8GB iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 pre-loaded with iOS 5 on a global level. More than that AT&T has also been known to promote iPhone 3GS in order to attract subscribers with zero subscription rates.

This is an impressive achievement; take a second to think about it. Even if 3.5 million units in six months doesn’t match the 30 million sold this month alone by the iPhone 4S, few other manufacturers ever produced such a volume of old devices that already have two younger brothers on the market. While Android’s popularity is still on the rise, Apple’s 3GS revenue seems not be affected.

The device might have remained popular due to the fact that Apple supports its latest operating system iOS 5 on it, therefore those who want to buy such a model, will experience the quality but for a lower cost. Anyway, the rumor machine has it that the iPhone 3GS will be discontinued next year and that’s the reasons why we’re seeing such reduced rates for the iPhone 4 and other models with less fancier capacity. Apple is trying to promote a cheaper option for interested parties.
