Outlook and iPhone

Trying to sync my contacts. Some how ended up with triplicate or more duplications. How to delete and sync properly. Please, can someone help me?

1. Export your contacts out of Outlook to a csv file
2. Delete all of the contacts in Outlook
3. Sync your iPhone to the blank contact list in Outlook
4. Import your contacts back to Outlook from the csv file
5. Sync your iPhone again with Outlook and the new contact list

Make sure you look in the csv file and see if there are duplicates in there.

Isn't that old school, why wouldn't you just use iCloud?

Because I don't trust the iCloud for obvious reasons with other similar programs recently being compromised.
