Pairing my iphone 4 with my '09 Malibu

I have been trying to figure out for DAYS how to set up my iphone so that I can make calls in my car using bluetooth. I have searched online, and I am not sure if my Verizon iphone is compatible with my car?? Or even if my car is compatible? How do I find this out? My phone searches forever for the car bluetooth, and nothing.... HELP PLEASE!!!
