Phone icon on the the right corner of the phone

I have suddenly realized that there is a phone icon showing on the the right corner of my iphone4 placed in between the alarm icon and the bluetooth icon. Why is it there? My other friends' iphone4s do not have it. Appreciate any help in understanding as to why the phone icon is there. Thanks.
