On the Droid there is an app called " phone silencer" which allows u to shut the ringer off and set a time which will automatically turn the ringer back on. I have looked but cannot seem to find any iPhone app which does the same thing. I would appreciate any help.

There currently is no such option on the stock phone or with an app from the App Store.
However, if you are jail broken, there is a tweak from Cydia called "RingerX VIP" ($1.99, USD) that does what you wish. Very handy thing to have.

There is an app in the store called AutoSilent that will silence your phone based on location or calendar appointments. It works great!
