Are picture messages free to other iPhones? Even if you're on a contract?

Is there anyway you can make sure it goes as an iMessage?

I do t think so as it depends on the service at the other phone, best thing to do is buy what's app at the app store ($1 or 69p)
It's a brilliant text service that works like your normal text, send a push etc, but the receiver doesn't get the text until they auto login.
When they have wireless or 3G (even 2g) they can download your text....
My current usage over a year is around 25000 messages sent and received
It also works as a live messenger when both parties are online at the same time...
It's number one or two best selling app and no I don't work for them !!!
