Millions of Pocket God fans all over the world were very upset when Bolt Creative decided to call time on its massively successful iOS game, ending any further updates. Protests from the fans urging Bolt to resurrect the iOS wing of the franchise have so far fallen on deaf ears, but instead they’ve decided to bring the Pygmies back in a totally different format, with Ooga Jump, which hits the App Store today.
The gameplay couldn’t be simpler, or more familiar, as it’s basically the jumping game from Pocket God, albeit a much upgraded and enhanced version: all you have to do is guide your Pygmy as he (or she) jumps upwards to the top of the screen by climbing on the Oogles and collecting as many gems as possible on the way. The twisted Pocket God humour is in full effect as you have to try to keep your Pygmy from a typically gruesome demise, including being disintegrated by fire ants, burned up by meteors, or trapped in robot force fields.
The Pygmies are armed against these myriad looming disasters with a special Slam Bounce ability, which they can use to smash obstacles and bounce even higher. It’s nothing we haven’t seen many times before on iOS, but if you’ve been missing your crazy Pygmy fix, then you’re going to love this, especially as you’ll even get the chance to play as Sun, the first official cannon girl-Pygmy from the Pocket God comics! You can also play as a zombie Pygmy.
Will Ooga Jump be as popular as Pocket God? It’s too early to say, of course, but the twisted humour and cute characters certainly translate well to the new format, so why not?!
