Apples iOS 6 Maps app has received a lot of criticism since it first replaced Googles Maps in iOS a few weeks back, with the whole furore even resulting in firings at Apple. Now, Forbes reports, Police in Australia are warning that the apps inaccuracies could in fact be very dangerous, even life-threatening. The warning comes from police in Mildura, Victoria, Australia, who have told motorists to be aware that Maps gets it wrong by showing Mildura in the middle of Murray Sunset National Park, with the very serious consequence being that several motorists have found themselves stranded in the middle of the Australian Outback, which can be a very inhospitable place to be if you dont know where youre going! And just to underline the fact that this incorrect Maps entry could be very serious indeed, Forbes says that Sunset National Park is not a typical park with barbecue areas and so on, it is in fact more than 3,000 square miles of Australian bush, inhabited by poisonous snakes and insects, with little water or mobile phone coverage, and where temperatures could reach 115 degrees Fahrenheit. Some motorists have found themselves stranded for more than 24 hours because of the mapping error. Victoria Police has now sent Apple an email telling them of the seriousness of the matter. [/FONT]
