Possible to recover voice mail messages?

My best friend passed away recently and I had six voicemails saved on my iPhone 4 from him so I could still here his voice. I didn't even THINK when I got my 4S and on the new phone they are GONE. Does anyone know if these can be found somewhere / somehow???

Thank you. I do not have the old iPhone anymore though. I guess I just assumed they would carry over to my new iPhone with my card or through iTunes.
