before I get an unlocked iphone 4 I want to know if AT&T gophone is my only prepaid option that offers data at 3G speed.

Doesn't work. Don't make the mistake of buying a Go data plan on AT&T. They'll sell it to you and claim that it works -- then acknowledge after questioning that the service "may not be up to par". This is shameless dishonesty. They downgraded the data access for prepaid plans so severely that it is useless. I signed up, spent several frustrated hours trying to get online, then canceled. They readily refunded my money when I complained -- indicating that this is a borderline scam.
