Even though the iPhone doesn't have an IR blaster built-in, that doesn't mean there isn't a crafty way to be able to use it as your TV and Audio Equipment remote. A $50 device called Pronto allows you to do exactly that. It's basically a module that sits in your living room and connects wirelessly to the iPhone via Bluetooth. It is also an IR device which pairs up with the Peel app for your iPhone so you can turn it into a remote.
The Peel app has a large database of electronic equipment remote controls available in its database which is very likely to work with your particular AV devices. To be clear, neither the Pronto, nor the Peel app are actually new. They've been around for a while, but that doesn't mean everyone has heard of it. Here are a couple of links where you can purchase the pronto should you feel inclined.
