Re-Activation Help

I accidentally washed my husbands iphone 5 and was just going to transfer phones so he could use mine. I did the "erase" on my phone and switched our sim cards. When I try to activate the phone now, it says the phone was set up with an applied (mine) but when I try to login using my info it says it can't unlock the phone. I tried switching the sim cards back but it still won't let me activate. Please help!!
