Apart from the camera band missing on top, there is an extra hole under the microphone next to the camera. According to Czech website LettemSvetemApplem, points toward a post from Chinese site Weibo, the hole might possibly be for laser auto-focus.
Previously we've seen the laser auto-focus tech show up on LG's 2014 handsets, so it's out there. If implemented into the iPhone 7, the device would be able to take better photos in low-light environments.
Last year we also saw Apple acquire Lynx for around $20 million. Lynx was an Israeli company which specialized in improved light sensitivity, less noise, faster exposure, and better photo quality in low light technology. This could yet be another reason for Apple to implement such a feature into the iPhone 7.
