MacRumors reports today on a device that popped up at CES from a company called Orbotix. Its called Sphero, and at present its only in the prototype stage, but it should be on sale in six months or so for around $100, complete with a few free bundled games. You connect the baseball-sized unit to your iPhone via Bluetooth, and then use the accompanying free app to control the ball. And in case the idea of being able to control a little ball with your iPhone doesnt exactly fill you with wonder and excitement, Orbotix says that Sphero is really much more of a development platform, according to MacRumors, a building block to encourage third-party developers to come up with new types of games and apps based around the core technology, such as soccer, bowling, or a King of the Hill type game. With that in mind, Orbotix is also working on an API for developers.
