Remote Control for iPhone?

Hey! My name is Chris and I'm working on a business research. I'd like to ask if anyone does use an external remote control, via wifi or bluetooth, with the iPhone or any other Apple device. And if yes, why and what do you use it for? Thanks!

I use the Apple Remote app to control my appleTV. Also use HippoRemote to control my PC's media center. Both remotes use wifi.
