Rumors about Apple rethinking its smartphone market strategy have been spreading around the Internet like weeds. By rethinking, sources mean that the Cupertino tech giant has become in recent times, open to all kinds of possibilities: from releasing a cheaper version of the iPhone thats supposed to become available in multiple colors, to building a smartphone with a bigger, wider screen.
Why is Apple taking such steps, steps which wouldnt have made any sense not so long ago? According to sources familiar with the matter, the company is under a lot of pressure from Korean competitor and arch enemy Samsung, so it had to resort to product variations and price cuts. According to them, the cheaper model of the iPhone is going to have a groundbreaking price: as low as $99 per unit. However, knowing Apple, nothing is sure until we get to see the actual products. One of the sources explained that:
"They constantly change product specifications almost to the final moment, so you're not really sure whether this is the final prototype.
With the launch of the iPhone 5, Apple stepped away for the first time from the 3.5-inch screen which Steve Jobs once called the perfect size for customers. Thus, it introduced the 4-inch, but does that mean that the company will keep the trend up and start releasing iPhones featuring larger and larger screens? Some believe Apple will slowly succumb to the phablet trend a smartphone thats almost as big as a tablet. All in all, regardless of how these theories play out, were still curious to witness the makeover coming out of Apple in the near future.
