It turns out we probably won't get to try Apple's CarPlay in our vehicles anytime this year. According to the latest intel, Apple may have delayed the product until next year. It's important to note that the source of this intel is purely speculation based upon some decent deductive reasoning.
Apparently, on Apple's CarPlay web landing page it used to show Ferrari, Honda, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo listed with the following clause: “CarPlay will be available on models from these great marques in 2014.” That has been changed since Tuesday and now it no longer references the year 2014, nor does it specifically mention these manufacturers (but still has a graphic with their logos).
This seems like a bit of a stretch, especially considering that the top portion of the landing page still indicates "Available on select new cars in 2014..." Of course, it's more than likely that it will be much more limited this year while Apple and the car manufacturers iron out the details.
In fact, right now it appears that only the Ferrari FF will make the 2014 deadline. It looks like we will have to wait.
