According to a note from Barclays Research that has been seen by AppleInsider, the design for next year’s iPhone, while not “100% locked down,” will feature a curved, bezel-less screen in 5-inch and 5.8-inch models.
According to Barclays Research sources in Apple’s Asian supply line, only the 5.8-inch phone will have an OLED screen, while the 5-inch model will have an LCD display.
As far as the home button is concerned, Barclays thinks that it will still exist, but will be overlapped by the elongated display.
Barclays says that its information comes from visiting production lines and suppliers in China, but AppleInsider seems to want a little more convincing about the accuracy of the report, even going so far as to claim that the research document is simply a rehash of previous reports from Apple’s supply chain in China. That being said, it could simply be a case of the rumours, which have been swirling around for some time now, actually becoming more credible as the start of the production process for the next iPhone draws closer, with Apple’s partners in China quite possibly already having access to prototypes of the new phones.
