AppleInsider reports that KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has issued a new research note today where he has imparted some new information about the 2017 OLED iPhone. Kuo thinks that only the top-of-the-range, high-end iPhone 8 will have an OLED display, with the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch models both having LCD panels.
Kuo says that Apple is planning to buy either 5.7-inch or 5.8-inch flexible OLED displays from Samsung, but the actual display area on the phone will be smaller than that, from 5.1 inches to 5.2 inches.
Kuo posits that the high-end OLED phone will have “significant changes in form factor,” with features that are “considerably better” than the other two LCD models, meaning that although smaller than the 5.5-inch model, the OLED model will be the top-of-the-range product.
Kuo adds that all three of the phones will have design changes, with the major one being the switch to a glass casing from a metal one.
