According to a surprising new report from tech blogger Robert Scoble, via BGR, the iPhone 8 is set to be Apple's most revolutionary iPhone yet. Scoble, who is, according to BGR, a well-established industry insider and currently Entrepreneur in Residence at UploadVR, said in an interview with FOVE, which he also outlined on his Facebook page, that he has been told that the next iPhone will be,
“a clear piece of glass (er, Gorilla Glass sandwich with other polycarbonates for being pretty shatter resistant if dropped) with a next-generation OLED screen.” Stating that this had been confirmed to him by “several sources,” Scoble went on to say that when the phone is placed into a headset with eye sensors, this will enable it to have “a higher apparent frame rate and polygon count that a PC with an Nvidia 1080 card in it. Thanks to foveated rendering.”
He added, “The clear iPhone will put holograms on top of the real world like Microsoft HoloLens does.”
Scoble also said that the eye sensors will mean that the iPhone has a brand new interface. It will have a next-generation 3D sensor developed by Primesense, who Apple has acquired, and Apple currently has 600 engineers working on just the sensor alone in its labs in Israel. Other recent rumours have also reported that Apple is working on something big at its offices in Israel.
Scoble cites the fact that 2017 will see the iPhone’s 10th anniversary, as well as being the first product launch in the amazing new space-age campus, as two reasons why the company intends to raise the bar with a “mixed reality” device that will “change this industry deeply.”
Scoble has an even bolder claim about Apple’s ambitious new venture, saying “Apple’s entrance into this new world is like when IBM came into the personal computing world. It is that important.”
