All the excitement about Apple’s newly released iPhone X has clearly worried Samsung so much that it has felt the need to release a new advert making fun of the iPhone.
BGR writes that the 1-minute long ad manages to make fun of the iPhone X storage, previous iPhones lack of water resistance, the missing headphone jack, and even the notorious “notch,” all without even mentioning Apple’s new phone by name.
Called “Samsung Galaxy: Growing Up,” the advertisement shows a man buying the original iPhone when it first came out. Then it shows a number of different humorous scenarios over the next 10 years involving the same man, including him running out of storage in 2010 when he wants to take a photo with his phone, falling in a lake with his girlfriend in 2016 to highlight the iPhone’s then lack of waterproof protection, all the while comparing his iPhone through the years with his girlfriend’s Samsung phone, until he eventually decides to buy a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 instead of the iPhone X.
All very funny indeed, but as BGR notes, what the advert really shows is that “Samsung is incredibly scared of the iPhone right now.” BGR points out the many things wrong with the advert, stating that if the iPhone is really as bad as Samsung implies, why are people lining up to buy it year after year, as they show in the video? And why is iPhone loyalty known to be so much higher than Samsung phone loyalty?
And where BGR really hits a nerve is when it asks, “why has Samsung ripped off the iPhone so blatantly time and time again if it’s such a bad product?” And, even more to the point, “when is the last time iPhones started exploding left and right, injuring users and even engulfing people’s cars and homes in flames?”
And possibly the most telling comment of all from BGR: when Apple had the opportunity to make fun of the exploding Galaxy Note 7 last year it simply ignored it.
