Q1: What is the difference between a tethered and untethered jailbreak?

Q2: How do I back up all my music, photos, contacts and apps BEFORE jailbreaking?

Q3: Does the app "JailBreakMe" jailbreaks the phone in tethered or untethered state?

Q4: What app should I use to jailbreak my phone?

Thank you.

1) tethered jailbreak means, when your phone restarts or looses power you will need to connect it it to your PC, and run redsnow and boot it up so its jailbroken or cydia will not open.....UNtethered means once its jailbroken, it wont matter if it looses power or restarts your phone wont need to be connected and ran in a jailbroken state.

2)you can back up all your stuff in itunes when you sync it

3)the website jailbreakme runs it in a untethered state, its not an app

4)it really depends on what firmware you are on, if your still on 4.1 you can use greenpois0n or limera1n, but if you are on 4.2.1 as of right now you have to use redsn0w and it will be a tethered jailbreak, but people are saying that the dev team is working on a untethered so its really up to you...to me tethered jailbreaks are a pain in the butt

Wait a minute. So when you sync the iPhone 4 with iTunes, it means that EVERYTHING on the phone, from photos, to music to contacts gets backed up?! And lets say for example, something goes wrong during the jailbreak. So I just hook up my phone to the computer, restore the phone to factory settings and then put all the backed up stuff back into the iPhone?

If that's the case then what is SHSH blobs? I keep reading about this and I keep seeing "4.2b3". What the heck is that?

to sync your photos open up the application on which you would transfer photos from your digital camera, or if your running a mac open up image capture..

if something were to go wrong during the jailbreak your phone will most likely restart (mine did) or you can just run it in DFU mode and restore..

SHSH blobs are basically apples signature that lets you downgrade to a earlier firmware so you can jailbreak or whatever it is you might need to do. and 4.2.b3 is the latest GM firmware that is not released to the public yet only for developers that are doing beta testing
