Siri has made it to the news once more, thanks to a man named Davis Remmel who put together a Siri-enabled rotary phone. Yes, were talking about those old devices, your grandma used to use. He shares a video of this invention on his blog, as well as a list of step-by-step instructions list of how to build the actual phone.
The assembly of this very interesting device starts off with a very cheap Bluetooth handset and a very old rotary phone. Yes, you can get that yourself at the local flee market. Theres no reason why you wouldnt try your hand with this. The button on the Bluetooth handset, wired to a contact on the dial in this particular case, number 1. Now, if you dial 1, it sets off two contacts in the phone and the Bluetooth headset turns on.
Mister Remmel came up with a very easy way to get things moving, but dialing 1 is no the same as dialing 0. Connecting the Bluetooth button to 0 takes a lot of time. Remmel said that 0 for operator could be implemented with an ATiny in the future. Thus equipped, the phone now can be used to ask Siri the usual questions.
