SMS back up

Hi, my wife and I are first time iPhone users. We read that ICloud will back up all data including text messages. I am wondering if someone can tell me if we can view the backed up messages in iCloud?? And if not, what can we do to back up SMS messages so that they may be saved, viewed, or printed from a computer for legal purposes?? Thank you all for any help you can provide.

iCloud will backup the device but you can not see individual SMS.

I'm on a mac, and use PhoneView which automatically backs up my sms's with phone numbers, appart from loads of other uses.
