Sony is one of the OEMs that doesn't just make electronics and sells them, but it also makes money from selling smaller components. Such is the case with its imaging sensors that are being sold to other companies, with Apple included. The Cupertino giant is using imaging components supplied by Sony in the latest iPhone 6 Plus.
And now the Japanese company is announcing a new imaging sensor that will improve smartphones cameras. The Exmor RS IMX230 is a stacked CMOS sensor that packs 21-megapixels into a small 1/2.4-inch design. It comes with a 192 point phase detection autofocus, allowing to easily shoot photos or video of a fast moving subject with your smartphone. And there are big chances that future iPhones could get it.
